Let’s get the nuts and bolts out of the way first, shall we? You come to bag-boxing class, you say hi to everyone. The instructor comes in and you begin your warm-up, you move on to some striking techniques, and combinations in the mirror, then you are paired up with someone of similar build and skill-level and you go to the heavy bags where you learn more combinations, or perhaps you and your partner use focus mitts and Thai pads.
You get a good cardio workout in intervals because you switch on the heavy bag or mitts and pads with your partner. Your instructor moves around the class doling out praise and motivation and correcting form and offering advice as appropriate. You have a fun workout that challenged you and everyone else in class even though you are at all different levels of fitness and skill. You worked on your form, you practiced mental conditioning, you improved your coordination, balance, agility, stamina and flexibility. You might have even learned a few self-defense techniques. Okay. You do ab work, cool down and stretch; you all congratulate yourselves on a great class and you go home feeling like a million bucks. You have a bite to eat and go to sleep.
The next day, you’re chugging along at work, business as usual, and you overhear someone talking smack about you when they think you can’t hear them! The old pre-bag boxing you would slink away solemnly. The new you calls your co-worker out! You say, “Hey, not cool, baby!” Or probably something even more amazing and everyone is awestruck by your grace and bravado. You see? You see what can happen?
When we say overall fitness, we mean it!
